Great Divide Trail

Canada’s Great Divide Trail runs 1200km from the US Border in Waterton National Park up along the spine of the Rocky Mountains to a point north of McBride BC at Kakwa Lake. It isn’t a single established trail rather a loose connection of trails, paths, cut-lines and roads that all link up. The Canadian GDT is part of the larger Y2Y corridor, the Yellowstone to Yukon corridor which acts as a vital passageway for wildlife.

Here is a link to some Google Earth files I’ve built that show the trail, there are still some blunders in them but I’ll get those out eventually (c:

Here is a link to a Google Map based on those same files

The only book that I’ve found as a reference is published by Rocky Mountain Books

Jan 20, 09: I went to the American Mountaineering Museum tonight in Golden CO looking for info on the GDT. They had the book mentioned above but the guy behind the desk had a buddy who hiked it in 2004. I’m reading his story right now and it’s fantastic.

http://cwillett.imathas.com/GDT/ also, he seems to carry a very small pack and travel very quickly… which I am definitely in awe of.
