San Fran – Day 2

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Day 2 started quite well. The blinking message light on my phone was a solid indication that United’s blinking baggage service came through for me and delivered my “delayed luggage” to the hotel. (c:

The first day of my “5 Day MBA” was really interesting, we dissected the tip of the financial iceberg and discussed all sorts of things that were new to me. Stocks, Stock Options, debits, credits, and doing things with money that you or I couldn’t legal do!

After sitting all day it felt really good to be out walking and I aimed for Fisherman’s Wharf. I worked my way up Market St and then tracked along the waterfront until I hit Fisherman’s. As expected, it was a zoo! Definitely a tourist place, with touristy shops and touristy attractions, and touristy people! I checked in on the boat to Alcatraz but the soonest they had was 3 weeks from now! I’m thinking that they could probably invest in a few more boats and still make a killing.

Lebowski on the Rocks

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Went and saw “The Big Lebowski” last night out at Red Rocks, it was excellent. There were people dressed up in costume and all sorts of ridiculousness going on. Couple that with a crack-up of a movie and a great view of the stars and you’d be hard pressed to have a bad night.

Calgary Trip

Friday, June 5th, 2009

I had an excellent week in Calgary last weekend, there was hiking ,bears, friends, family and all sorts of good things. 4 days was definitely too short, but it was really fantastic to see everyone. The next trip is planned for late July and will mostly be a climbing trip, but there are 3-4 days at the end of it that are purely for hanging out on decks!

Thanks to everyone that came out, it was really great to see all of you!

Whew!

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Wow, for about a week there I was afraid I’d lost the whole database and everything on JourneyingJon! I was moving from one host to another and had deleted some files I needed… oops! Fortunately the folks at DreamHost were amazing and everything is back to normal. I’m sure there will still be some tweaks I need to do to get it “perfect” but it sure is a lot better than having lost it all!

May-Long Weekend Plans

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

May Long is finally here in the US, the first long weekend since New Years actually and I’m pretty excited for it. We’re going to head down to the Sangre range (map) and hike in to Ellingwood, Little Bear and Blanca and, if the weather is on our side, climb them all too (c:

Calgary

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

I’m in Calgary now and it’s cooold! We had a family thing yesterday out in Red Deer and it was really good to see everyone again. Since I took off in July I haven’t really seen much of my family and so seeing the extended side was excellent. Today there’s another old-neighbourhood get together and then wings and beer on Monday… I’m excited for wings and beer.

Hopefully the weather will warm up and we can get out skiing at least once or twice and hang out in the mountains a little too… I miss my Canadian Rocky Mountains (c:

Rio Grande National Forest

Monday, May 26th, 2008

Today was a very peaceful Sunday, it’s a long weekend here but so far I haven’t been witness to crazy migration of people or maybe they’re all at the mall rather than in the mountains. This afternoon I surveyed a point in the Rio Grande National Forrest just outside of South Fork CO, the survey was easy enough and I got to spend a few great hours in this valley

Despite being only 50F or so it was perfect sweater-weather and I managed to spend a good portion of the afternoon buried in a book. As it usually does though a hill caught my eye and I trooped to the top just for kicks. Along the way I tried to get a few good shots of wildlife and these were the best… not great I’ll allow, but fun in the trying anyway.

It was a rather windy day and he wouldn’t open his wings much for me

Weather day!
